On Welding of High-Strength Steels Using Laser Beam Welding and Resistance Spot Weld Bonding with Emphasis on Seam Leak Tightness

The design of most electric vehicles provides for the positioning heavy energy storage units in underbody cars. In addition to crash safety, battery housing has meet high requirements gas tightness. order test use high-strength steels this sub-assembly, paper examines welded joints utilizing resistance spot weld bonding and laser remote welding, with special regard tightness welds. For purpose, pressure difference helium sniffer leak detection are presented applied. combination both methods proven ideal experimental investigations. gas-tight seams can be achieved an inter-sheet gap 0.1 mm, even if occasionally leaking samples cannot prevented. Resistance welding suits joining one- two-component adhesives. Against background tightness, process fluctuations that lead spatter defects adhesive layer must prevented priority.
